YOUR HOST:
ADDRESS: Vinačac 8, 20271 Blato
TELEPHONE NUMBER:
Please call your host one hour prior to your arrival.
If you are arriving from Split airport, we suggest you rent a car there and then follow the sign boards for the city of Split. The same guidelines apply for arriving from any country in Europe and passing Slovenia, Hungary or Italy. Once you reach Split, sign boards for Split port / Split ferry will start to appear. Following the signs, you will reach the port where information boards for Korcula/Vela Luka island will guide you to reach the correct ferry peer.
We suggest you park the car there (there is usually a line of cars, you can park behind the last one) and return to the main Jadrolinija building (you can't miss the white and blue sign and it's the only building on the left side of the port) where you will find the ticket office and there you can buy the ticket for Vela Luka (don't forget to mention the car brand as there are different fees for different sizes of cars, also mention the number of persons travelling with you).
After buying the ticket, you can either return to your car or if you still have time, we recommend visiting the centre of Split which is only about a five-minute walk away.
You can choose between the following ferries and catamarans:
a) Ferry (for cars and passengers) from Split to Vela Luka
- low and high season
b) Catamaran (only for passengers) from Split to Vela Luka
- low and high season
After arriving at Vela Luka, you will only need about 25 minutes to reach the vacation house.
c) Catamaran (only for passengers) from Split to Korcula town
Catamaran 1
Catamaran 2
From Korcula old town you need another 35 driving minutes to your Villa in Blato
If you are arriving from Dubrovnik airport, you can decide to
- hop on the catamaran (only for passengers) from Dubrovnik port to Korcula town
Catamaran 1, Catamaran 2
Or follow the sign boards for Split to reach the main costal road. Once on the road, after some time signs for the town of Ston will start to appear – this is a coastal town connecting the main shore and the Peljesac peninsula.
Follow the signs and when you have reached Ston, your next destination is Orebic town on Peljesac peninsula. This town is on the other side of the peninsula and you will need about an 1,5 hour's drive by car through Peljesac to reach it. The ride offers wonderful views of the surrounding scenery.
After arriving to Orebic, follow the signs for the ferry/port where you will board the ferry which will take you to Domince (a coastal town on Korcula island, the ferry sails around 12 times a day, every day). The ride takes about 20 minutes.
- Low and high season timetable for the ferry Orebic - Domince (Korcula) can be seen here
After arriving to Domince, you need about an hour to reach the vacation house. Follow the signs for Vela Luka, Blato and once you arrive there, follow the detailed guidelines below to reach your final destination.
ISLAND KORCULA
Korcula is an island, located in Middle Dalmatia with 270 m2 (46,5 km long and 5-8 km wide), from the port town of Vela Luka to the capital of Korcula, also named Korcula, there are 50 km.
1.) Pupnat Bay (Pupnatska Luka): We recommend that you take a trip by car to the beautiful Pupnat Bay (a relatively unpopulated bay with a beautiful pebble beach and one typical Dalmatian restaurant) approx. 30-minute drive by car from your apartment (without shade, so we recommend bringing a sun shade with you). You can reach the beach by descending the new asphalt road and park at the end of the bay. The best time to visit this beach is in the early morning hours when there are fewer people there and the colours of the sea are breath-taking!
2.) Bacva Bay (Plaza Bacva), on the way to the town of Korcula (40-minute drive from your vacation house) is approx. one half smaller than Pupnat Bay but no less charming. The best time to visit is during the day with small white pebble stones all warmed up from the sun!
3.) The town of Korcula with its medieval Old Town (about 50 minute drive from your vacation house). Some people affectionately refer to it as little Dubrovnik. The town of Korcula is an annual host of Knights games called Moreska which are a wonderful tourist attraction, especially for children.
Sword dance Moreska
They take place in the old city centre in the amphiteater under the stars. After the games have a cocktail at Massimo – a pub in the tower of the city walls. To reach it, you need to climb a wooden ladder (skirts are not recommended).
For that final cherry on top treat yourself to an authentic sea food dinner in one of Korcula's many restaurants (we recommend restaurant Mareda in the old city centre) to end the perfect trip around Korcula island.
Charming old Venetian town of Korcula – drink a cocktail in a tower!
4.) Proizd Island with its magical turquoise pebble beaches! The boat Muro which takes you to the island 3 times a day (9 am, 10 am and 11 am). The ride takes approx. 40 minutes and you can return back to Vela Luka at 4 pm, 5pm or 6 pm from Proizd Island.
The boat ride itself is already an adventure. We recommend that you bring a sunshade and some food, however, there is one restaurant on the island where you can buy some water, ice cream or have a Dalmatian lunch (not really a highlight in restaurant offer but nevertheless the grill dishes are quite tasty). Three are a number of pine woods above the beach, so there is some shade. The island has 4 excellent beaches and the last on the left is a nudist beach.
In 2008 Proizd Island was named the island with the most beautiful beaches in Croatia!
Another charming thing to do is renting a small fisherman’s boat (ask Mr.Mario) with which you can reach the nearby islands and hidden coves. To rent a small boat (4-5 HP) you need boat license and the rates are from 55 – 60 €/day. Bigger speed boats require a valid boat’s license and cost from 120 € (50 HP) - 220 €/day (100 HP). Do be mindful of the afternoon maestral wind as it can get quite strong when returning home (it is best to ask your host for the weather forecast when renting the boat).
1.) Agro tourism "Miletic" (the nickname of the owner - a fisherman is Gulin) in Stracincica in Vela Luka (22 driving minutes from your vacation house) is the most charming and the most authentic restaurant you'll find on the island. There are 5 charming stone houses (dry construction) and a large sign with a fork and knife in front of the house.
This homestead looks like the property of a fairy-tale. Since this fisherman Tonci goes catching in the morning, you should pre-book your lunch/dinner 1 day in advance. Call Tonci or Marino (son) on the telephone number 00 385 95 91 11 308 for booking and tell that you come from Adriatic Pearls (mention "a Slovenian Tanya"), so you will be on priority list.
It is almost always sold out and there is relatively difficult to get a seat. During the meal a couple of grey charming older gentlemen sing some of a typical Dalmatian song, so you don't know whether to eat or melt of joy :)
2.) Tavern Aterina in Korcula old town (50 driving minutes from your vacation house) is absolutely one of my personal favorites. They have delicious fresh daily soups, and I adore their “plate of all starters” and “drunken octopus” with home-made pasta.
3.) Tavern "Grubinjac", located on the main road Vela Luka - Korcula, just before you start to go into the town of Korcula. There have excellent local food, octopus, shrimps and other seafood delights, as well as meat and excellent brandy, »rose« and “thyme”. If you feel sick, ask for home-made tea. Lady goes directly into the garden and collects fresh herbs and lemon balm from which she prepares you a tea :) Amazing!
4.) Agro tourism "Zure" (located in Lumbarda, 50 minutes away from your vacation house) - here all the food and drink is produced on their own farm. They are known after excellent fish Gof (they have it, because the owner goes hunting every night and serves only what he catches). Excellent local wine Grk (white and very drinkable), which grows only in the vineyards in Lumbarda. Best fish I have ever ate was prepared and served right here, named Gof. The food is normally priced and the ambiance is very pleasant, Mediterranean-style.
5.) Tavern "Maslina" (along the road at the entrance to Lumbarda - 50 minutes away from your vacation house) is perfect if you want great home-made specialties from Korcula: Maslina is all over the island known for its »pogacice« (this are small pittas, soaked in delicious olive oil, that just melt in your mouth) that goes very good with the goat cheese and peppers for starters. They are also famous for their home-made pasta - »Zrnovski« macaroni (with prawns are excellent!). You also won't be sorry if you order the “Pogaca” cake (pizza-like specialty of very good dough, homemade tomato sauce, with grilled aubergines and courgettes, coated with goat cheese and with a dressing made of black olives ...).
6.) Elegant white restaurant "Filippi" (in the Old Town of Korcula) is serving top wines, gourmet goat cheeses, the most delicious lamb ribs on the island, excellent fish soup and home-made pasta. You will appreciate extremely fast and friendly staff, if you come hungry :)
7.) Restaurant Maha (agro tourism) is 35 minutes away (with car) from Vela Luka towards Lumbarda. They serve only local food, fresh fish (previously caught by locales, otherwise the fish is not on the menu), and probably the best beefsteak on the island!
8.) Tavern “Siloko” in Gradina (22 driving minutes away from your vacation house) - seafood from under baking. Gradina is the neighboring village of Stracincica in Vela Luka and a very picturesque village; it has a phenomenal bay, where the sailboats are parked during the summer. This is the only tavern in Gradina and is located next to the sea. Fantastic atmosphere, the prices are a bit higher, but the quality is the best (lobsters - freshly caught, etc...)
9.) Lounge bar and restaurant “Maximilian Garden” in old town of Korcula is the most charming spot to watch sunsets and drink “the best Mojito in town” :) They have a nice offer of fresh snacks and some very good main dishes; however, their focus is on cocktails, excellent wine and perfect setting. My absolute favorite place on the Island…!
